It’s the end of the year. My brain is fried. Consider this a burnt out, casual version of Oprah’s Favorite Things. Reading glasses ($29): this was the year I stopped fighting my struggling vision and I increased the icon and font size on my phone, used my second monitor regularly, and invested in these reading glasses (mine have 1.25x magnification). My eyes don’t feel as tired at the end of the day, and they’re really flattering. The Midnight Taxi ($19): this is one of the best books I read this year (it’s out February 10, but please pre-order it now). Veronica Mars made me a sucker for a snarky, underestimated woman detective, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since. This book is a true love letter to the beating heartbeat of New York, the South Asian diasporic experience, and women generally kicking ass. I haven’t stopped talking about it, and I probably won’t stop until well after pub day. My favorite #5SmartReads issue: Rifle Paper Co stitched notebook set ($19): I’ve filled 7 of these notebooks this year (and on track to finish my current one on New Year’s Eve!). These are the only notebooks I’ve ever completely filled out, and has helped me establish the journaling habit I can’t live without. I give full credit to these notebooks. Bose Ultra Open Earbuds ($199): these are the perfect headphones for me. The sound quality is outstanding, they’re comfortable and never slip out, and I like being able to hear what’s happening around me. When I’m hitting peak overstimulation at the end of the day, I pop these in while playing some calming frequencies, and it helps me manage the evening dinner/homework/bedtime chaos with the kids. My favorite memory: the Eagles winning the Super Bowl Belts ($19): I became a belt person this year, and I’ve now purchased multiple colors of the one I linked. It zhushes up every outfit and makes me feel pulled together. I also wear these round buckle belts often. MM.LaFleur Zelda boots ($429): I know these are expensive, but bear with me. The first time I wore these shoes was to a massive work conference (that spanned multiple, huge conference halls that I ran between). I walked over 14,000 steps the first time I ever wore these shoes, and my feet were totally fine. The next day, I walked ~16,000 steps. Still fine. I’ve worn these to school drop-off and pick-ups, travel days, evenings out, and marathon days in the city and my feet feel great. My favorite thing I did for myself: Custom embroidered book clutch ($370): I gifted a few of these to friends this year (and really should order two for myself). This artist does a fantastic job, sending you multiple images of works in progress and welcomes feedback on the practice canvases. The best pens ($13): The perfect thickness (0.7 mm), dries quickly, and it writes so smoothly. I love these pens, rebuy them often, and will happily share the link because it’s the Goldilocks of pens. My favorite episode of That Desi Spark: Here’s what I published this week: things I’m loving right now
