How many of your habits are on autopilot or cruise control? This clip got me thinking about mine, and how these monthly plans have helped me get my essential health habits (nutrition and workouts, especially). Is it lame that this is one of my biggest accomplishments this year? It probably is. And I’m fine with that. ‘Cruise’ is the theme for this month. I’ve established the habits, and my new goal is to make them as effortless as possible. I have a busy month ahead (the back-to-school transition, big work things), and I want to be as well and rested as possible to tackle everything without burning out. Revamped Morning RoutineI relished in my morning reading time during the summer. Starting my day with my current novel and a hot cup of coffee felt luxuriously lazy and restorative, and was made possible by a later camp drop-off time, a slower time at work, and my parents’ help with the kids in the morning. As much as I would love to continue this ritual, it’ll throw off my entire day with our regular routine. My morning writing block levels up my fulfillment and productivity on the days I prioritize it. The alternative (getting lost in my current novel, scrolling on social) derails me and I end up playing catch up the rest of the day. In an effort to prioritize writing and my proper morning routine (meditation, journaling), I’m leaving my phone at my desk in the mornings and will have my iPad (logged out from social media and emails) with me instead. I do read on my Kindle at nights, but will swap to a physical book if the device proves to be too distracting in the mornings. Here’s how I’d like my mornings to go:
September workout planI’m keeping the same strength split (4 lifting days, 1 Pilates day), a goal of hitting 7K steps, and playing tennis once a week. September’s strength split (and starting weights)
MealsA quick refresher on how I plan my meals each week. I rotate through the same 3 breakfasts and lunches, and we have the fairly fixed dinner rotation. Breakfast:
Lunch:
We keep the same general menu for dinner:
Lazy Cozy SeasonI love September. I love this time between lazy summer days and cozy season (two of my favorite vibes). More often than not, I let this time pass with zero thought, and regret not making the most after Halloween and Diwali have passed. Not this year. I’m not making any ambitious plans or a bucket list, but I plan on honoring these days with some of these moments:
