welcome to your weekly microdose of pop-rocks for your brain, the nexialist hey, you! i hope this e-mail finds you (not your ai agent). this week, amsterdam is full of people (and boats, and ships) for SAIL, an event that happens every 5 years to celebrate nautical history. millions of people visit and more than 10 thousand boats pass by amsterdam. it’s the first time i witness it since i moved here, since last edition was cancelled due to covid. i don’t think i have ever seen so many boats in my life, it was quite an amazing sight. on another note, i dj some pop music this weekend at nyx, which always makes me excited and nervous. i’ll leave the intro here because i need to practice! i hope tou enjoy! 🫀✨ 1 year ago » 🏜️✨The Nexialist #0187 : caju | cashew | climate fix | great green wall | bioremediation | sever the blight | trajectories for future festivals 2 years ago » 👛✨The Nexialist #0135 : the truth about airplane mode | cosmophobia | logotherapy | worldbuilding ft. design fiction | foresight resources | screens for kids | low tech zones | hypnic jerk 3 years ago » 🗿✨The Nexialist #0083 : Nuragic Civilization | Sa Sartiglia | City: Megasculpture | Brasilia: Urbanism Utopia? | The Dystopia of São Paulo | Bad at Predictions | Global Tech’s Changemakers | BZRP + VILLANO ANTILLANO | Her 4 years ago » 🐕✨The Nexialist #0034 : Doggos | Cat Jams | Bunny is a Rider | Codex Seraphinianus | Glitched Nostalgia | Back to the Future: Identity | Public Service Broadcasting 🏡doll houselast week, i went to the stedelijk museum with my friend raquel, and we visited the museum’s collection. i’m always so drawn to the historical doll houses whenever i see one, the details are so inviting to the eye. so i found this asmr video from v&a showing a german doll house from the 17th centure. it is a time capsule to see all the details, the materials, the care that was put into these miniatures. brainsparks: homunculus (tn#43) 🎙️inside tiny desksuch a precious video by the architectural digest showing us the details and the history of the iconic tiny desk, one of the coolest and most authentic programs we have today. all the questions that crossed my mind (and the ones that didn’t) were answered: is this really an office? (yes) how many people does it take to produce this? (a lot of people), how many people fit there? (a lot), where did the name tiny desk came from? we also get to see who some of the objects in the back belong to, as they are little souvenirs left by the artists. one important thing: they moved from another office, and even that transition was recorded as a live concert of ok go! a masterclass in authencity. brainsparks: bad bunny: tiny desk (tn#220), doechii (tn#203) 🎱scene cool x internet coolSean Monahan shared the part 1 of 8ball’s report on the state of cool, unpaywalled. of course, i was already taken by this idea of broadcast creating the mainstream, and the mainstream mining subcultures while the internet disrupts the mainstream. in this first part the focus is on the internet cool part of their framework and the next part will detail the scene cool (they explain it in the report) while it is focused on the united states, i like the rationale explaining this flow of coolness.
brainsparks: is cool dead? (tn#235), the triad of capital (tn#203), anatomy of hype (tn#217), does coolness still exist? (tn#30), counterculture x conterfutures (tn#10), life after lifestyle (tn#91), gen z subcultures (tn#91), countercultureless socieity (tn#73) 🫦mes lèvres rougesi’ve been watching (too much) drag race these days, as there are 3 different seasons airing simoultaneously. i just love this kind of 80s cult vibes that punani from drag race all stars france released recently: the visuals, the sound, the performance. brainsparks: mistress violet (tn#31), fade to grey (tn#66), keynote (tn#215) 🧅dicing an onionmy eyes filled with tears with this post about the most optimal way to dice onions, mathematically. i’m in between loving and hating whoever decided to do this (andrew aquino, russell samora and jan diehm), because it’s so neat and interactive and now i feel i need to accept the challenge. i did learn how to dice onions a few years ago with my patient boyfriend juan, who is a chef (and he can tell you i resisted this for a long time). and until now, i was satisfied with my dicing skills. not anymore. or am i going to resist dicing oppression? i also thought about how now there is a framework to teach a robot to dice onions perfectly (it reminded me of cassandra). brainsparks: generational gaps (tn#2), same gender lyrics (tn#27), tiktok killed the radio star (tn#73), wine animals (tn#223), invisible pandemic (tn#202), is the love song dying? (tn#199), the big [censored] theory (tn#87), 🤖clankerrecently, the word clanker got an influx of visitors to envisioning’s vocab section. then this adam aleksic (love him!) video showed up, explaining why this word was picked up instead of others i also wasn’t aware of, like skinjob or toaster.
brainsparks: a bestiary of the anthropocene (tn#211), cyborg art (tn#179), mechanomorphism (tn#118), i’m not a robot (tn#201), digiphrenia (tn#191), back to the future: identity (tn#34), is your job safe from ai (tn#165), new words for new worlds (tn#111) 🐠destinationi was not familiar with the irrepressibles, but now i will invest time to get to know them. it’s “the creative guise of British musician Jamie McDermott (aka Jamie Irrepressible)”. what a cool and simple way to describe it. the sound feels so original and the video captivated me: it’s creepy, sexy and cute. i mean, a guy and this… plastic guy (?) dancing in a fish shop… what’s not to love? 🍗gnarlythis video has been sitting in my backlog for a few weeks, as i was waiting for an excuse to use the start in my cover. if you’ve been living under a rock, katseye is a world girl group, with women from different countries. i see it as westernized k-pop, and it works quite well (if you’re into that kind of stuff). the song feels like a shot of energy, like there’s multiple songs in one, and the video is hyper-stimulating, there’s always something happening. if i feel that, i can only imagine a teenager’s brain. also, i don’t think i knew the meaning of gnarly before, but it doesn’t matter because katseye just make it mean everything (or nothing). see you next week, gnarlies🫀✨❓Wait, what is a Nexialist?🔎If you want to see what I’ve already posted, visit the archive and use the search engine. Even I do that a lot.💌I want to know what you think/who you are! Your feedback is highly appreciated; you can e-mail me or fill in this short survey. Thank you! 🙏🏻🔌Let’s Collab?I truly believe innovation comes from bringing improbable areas together, and that’s why I called this project The Nexialist. Some sectors are known to be self-referencing and hermetic. Sometimes, teams are on autopilot mode, focused on the daily grind, which hinders innovation. As a Nexialist, I like to burst these bubbles, bringing references from different areas, and maintaining teams inspired and connected to the Zeitgeist. I offer inspiration sessions called Brainsparks, creative desk research (Zeitgeist Boost), Plug’n’Play deals for workshops and sprints, and other bespoke formats. If you want to know more about this, send me an e-mail with your challenge(s) and we can figure something out together.
