Welcome to Friday afternoon and the answers! Hope you manage to get home safely, it’s NASTY out there.
Three songs were correctly identified by everyone who sent in an entry this week: Beyoncé’s “Halo”, Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” and of course, “I Bet You Think About Me” from Taylor Swift. My Chemical Romance’s “Famous Last Words” caused the most confusion.

1970s: “Child of the Moon”, The Rolling Stones
The wind blows rain into my face
The sun glows at the end of the highway
Child of the moon, rub your rainy eyes
Oh, child of the moon
Give me a wide-awake crescent-shaped smile
Hint: This legendary, possibly-immortal (slash, so well preserved from all the drugs death will never claim them) English rock band can’t get no satisfaction, want you to get off their cloud, and have sympathy for the devil. Song title in lyrics quoted.
1990s: “Say It Ain’t So”, Weezer
Say it ain't so
My love is a life taker
Dear daddy, I write you
In spite of years of silence
You've cleaned up, found Jesus
Things are good, or so I hear
This bottle of Steven's
Awakens ancient feelin's
Like father, stepfather
The son is drowning in the flood
Yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah
Hint: This American rock band has sung about Buddy Holly, their sweater coming undone, their hash pipe, islands in the sun, and Beverly Hills (that’s where they want to be). Song title in lyrics quoted.
2000s (band): “Famous Last Words”, My Chemical Romance
'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone (Or dead)
Honey, if you stay, you'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
Hint: When this band were young boys their father took them into the city to see a marching band…song title not in lyrics quoted, but is a three word phrase “said as an ironic comment on an overconfident assertion that may later be proved wrong”.
2000s (solo): “Halo”, Beyoncé
It's like I've been awakened
Every rule, I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't ever gonna shut you out
Everywhere I'm lookin' now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my savin' grace
Hint: You may know this Crazy in Love Single Lady (who is actually happily married with 3 children) from her recent country album, or her millions of hit singles that help us get in Formation…song title in lyrics quoted.
2010s: “Wide Awake”, Katy Perry
(I'm wide awake)
Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard with an open heart
(I'm wide awake)
How did I read the stars so wrong?
(I'm wide awake)
Hint: I forget that this California Gurl (who once kissed a girl and liked it) was married to Russell Brand, but she was and this song is about her divorce from him. Regardless of what the St Trinian’s movie wanted you to believe, Russell Brand was no girl’s Teenage Dream. Song title in lyrics quoted.
2020s: “I Bet You Think About Me”, Taylor Swift
3 AM and I'm still awake, I'll bet you're just fine
Fast asleep in your city that's better than mine
And the girl in your bed has a fine pedigree
And I'll bet your friends tell you she's better than me, huh
Well, I tried to fit in with your upper-crust circles
Yeah, they let me sit in back when we were in love
Oh, they sit around talkin' about the meaning of life
And the book that just saved 'em that I hadn't heard of
But now that we're done and it's over
I bet you couldn't believe
When you realized I'm harder to forget than I was to leave
And I bet you think about me
Hint: Another song probably about Jake Gyllenhaal, who’s behaviour in a relationship we know All Too Well about (where is the scarf, Jake. Where). This artist has largely been able to Shake It Off about her Reputation, even when it’s a Cruel Summer, and she thinks You Need to Calm Down. Song title in lyrics quoted.
