Welcome to Friday afternoon and the answers! A MUCH harder quiz this week, apparently.
The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” was the most correctly identified song this week, while “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green caused the most confusion.

Some good news for your weekend: the Iberian lynx is back from the brink of extinction (and is very cute).
Kirsti.
1970s: “Let’s Stay Together”, Al Green
Lovin' you whether
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad
Ooh, yeah
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad
Why somebody, why people break up
Turn around and make up, I just can't see
You'd never do that to me, would you baby?
Just being around you is all I see, it's what I want to do
Hint: This soul classic is the signature song from this artist, who you might know from such songs as this one, “Take Me to the River”, “Tired of Being Alone”, “I’m Still in Love With You”, and “Love and Happiness”. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
1980s: “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”, The Clash
One day it's fine, and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Hint: You probably know this English punk band from this song, or maybe “Lost in the Supermarket” and “Death or Glory”. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
1990s: “The Wild Ones”, Suede
As I open the blinds in my mind, I'm believing that you could stay
And oh, if you stay
I'll chase the rain-blown fields away
We'll shine like the morning and sin in the sun
Oh, if you stay
We'll be the wild ones, running with the dogs today
Hint: This song was the second single from the album “Dog Man Star” by an English rock band named after a form of leather where the flesh side has been rubbed to make a velvety nap. It is one of several notable songs from this band including “So Young” and “Stay Together” inspired by the songwriter’s breakup with one particular ex. Song title in lyrics quoted.
2010s (A): “Stay Stay Stay”, Taylor Swift
This morning, I said we should talk about it
'Cause I read you should never leave a fight unresolved
That's when you came in wearing a football helmet
And said, "Okay, let's talk"
Hint: I wonder if her current boyfriend has ever walked in wearing his football helmet and said “okay, let’s talk”? Song title not in lyrics quoted.
2010s (B): “Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea”, Fall Out Boy
The only thing that's ever stopping me is me, hey!
I testify if I die in my sleep
Then know that my life was just a killer dream, yeah
Seems like the whole d*mn world went and lost its mind
And all my childhood heroes have fallen off or died
Fake tears, real living, fake tears
But the alcohol never lies, never lies
Some princes don't become kings
Hint: Okay this one is mean, but I adore this song so I included it (pour one out for Sam Smith, who’s “Stay With Me” was dropped in favour of this song). A utter banger of an inspirational track that opened the 2018 album from my favourite rock band, the title of this song gave it’s name to the two llamas puppets that appeared in the music videos from this era. The song title could be translated as “remain cool regal cow-juice leaf-juice”, and it’s not in the lyrics quoted (or indeed in the lyrics of the song at all).
2020s: “As It Was”, Harry Styles
Nothin' to say
When everything gets in the way
Seems you cannot be replaced
And I'm the one who will stay, oh-oh-oh
In this world, it's just us
Hint: This artist famously completed our last Census, but I’m fairly sure his wasn’t one of the forms photocopied. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
