1970s: “Title Title Title Title Title”, [Artist]
So you think I got an evil mind, well I'll tell you honey
And I don't know why
And I don't know why
So you think my singing's out of time, well it makes me money
And I don't know why
And I don't know why
Anymore
Oh no
Hint: It’s not Quiet Riot - their version was a cover. This English rock band is perhaps best known for their single “Merry Xmas Everybody”, and for deliberately misspelling their song titles (including this one). Following an unsuccessful move to the U.S. in 1975, this band’s popularity in the UK waned, but was unexpectedly revived in 1980 when they were last-minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne at the Reading Rock Festival. Their name kinda sounds like the word for a type of rock formerly used as a medium for writing. Song title not in lyrics quoted.

Oh, I heard it all before
So don't knock down my door
I'm a loser and a user, so I don't need no accuser
To try and slag me down because I know you're right
So go do what you like
Make sure you do it wise
You may find out that your self-doubt means nothing was ever there
You can't go forcing something if it's just not right
No time to search the world around
'Cause you know where I'll be found
Hint: I learned earlier this year that the album this song is from is now 30 years old, which…is wild honestly. Currently declaring that they are God’s favourite band, this Californian punk trio is known for so many songs, including “Longview”, “Basket Case”, and “Geek Stink Breath”. They’re just about to kick off a tour in which they play both this album and the rock opera they released 10 years later in their entirety, which I am definitely hoping to catch. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
1990s (B): “Title Title Title Title”, [Artist]
Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend
Hint: This alternative rock song features one of the longest guitar solos from the frontman of this 3 piece band who came to define a sound from the Pacific Northwest. It also definitely borrows it’s distinctive bassline from the Killing Joke song “Eighties” (also a banger). This band had only a short mainstream career (about 3 years), cut short by the death of said frontman by suicide. Their former drummer has gone on to form a very successful rock band; their former bassist has focused on political activism. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
2000s: “Title Title Title Title”, [Artist]
And I'll never stop loving you
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Hint: This song was the third single released by this American singer-songwriter and pianist on her debut studio album which blended acoustic pop with soul and jazz. You may know this artist from her songs “Don’t Know Why”, “Sunrise”, and “Chasing Pirates”. Song title in lyrics quoted.
2010s (A): “T’tle”, [Artist]
Let's go for it, just for tonight
Come on, come on, come on
Write our names on the wall in the back of the bar
Steal some bubblegum from the corner Meximart
Yeah, we laughin' like kids causin' trouble in the dark
Causin' trouble in the dark, tr-tr-trouble in the dark
Hint: Billboard called this song by this American singer and songwriter “a YOLO dance jam about taking hookups from the dance floor to the bedroom”, while MTV called the track a “...case for a sassy one-night stand.” Honestly I just think it’s a fun wee bop. You may know this artist from her songs “Praying”, “Tik Tok” or “Die Young”. Song title kinda in lyrics quoted.
2010s (B): “Title Title…Title Title”, [Artist]
Stumbled through the long goodbye
One last kiss, then catch your flight
Right when I was just about to fall
I told myself, "Don't get attached"
But in my mind, I play it back
Spinning faster than the plane that took you
And this is when the feelin' sinks in
I don't wanna miss you like this
Hint: This song is from a 2012 album named for a colour that was recently re-released, and tells the story of being in a relationship with a guy who is always travelling. The identity of who the song is about has never been confirmed, but people suspect it’s the same person who inspired this billionaire songstress’ songs “Style”, “Out of the Woods”, “I Know Places”, “Is It Over Now?” and “Wonderland”. Song title not in lyrics quoted.
